​OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

​OF THE SEYMOUR CITY COUNCIL

​SEYMOUR, IOWA--MARCH 6, 2017


Seymour City Council met on the 6th day of March, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers City Hall with Mayor House presiding. Present: Carter, Housh, Merritt, Rembe. Absent: Weeks.


AGENDA:  Moved by Rembe, seconded by Housh to approve the agenda.   A.V.A.M.C.


MINUTES:  Moved by Housh, seconded by Rembe to approve the minutes of the February 13, 2017 regular meetings.   A.V.A.M.C.


FINANCIAL STATEMENTS:  Moved by Merritt, seconded by Carter to approve the financial statement for February 2017, pending final verification with the bank.  A.V.A.M.C.


CLAIMS:  Moved by Merritt, seconded by Housh to approve the claims from February 14, 2017, through March 6, 2017, as presented.  A.V.A.M.C.


DAN SALES:  Sales presented the new insurance policy to the City, with premium at $33,367.00.  Moved by Rembe, seconded by Housh to remove the old City building from the policy.  A.V.A.M.C.  Sales also presented the City with a dividend check totaling $2366.96. Also noted was the importance of having all work comp claimants furnish a return to work order by the attending physician in writing.


PUBLIC HEARINGS:  At 6:10 Mayor Housh suspended the regular meeting and opened a public hearing on the proposed 2018 fiscal year budget. With no written comments presented to the clerk prior to the hearing and no comments during the hearing. Mayor Housh closed the public hearing at 6:10 p.m.  Mayor Housh then opened a public hearing regarding the sale of property located at 1003 Strome Street in Seymour. Following a brief discussion of the location of the property,  Mayor Housh closed the public hearing at 6:11 p.m. and reopened the regular meeting.


FIRE DEPARTMENT:   Fire Chief Merritt reported eleven fire calls and using approximately 14,600 gallons of water for the month of February. Finish work is continuing on the new building.


CITY CREW REPORT:  Sherrard reported getting equipment ready for the mowing season and running the maintainer and street sweeper.


PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE:  Moved by Rembe, seconded by Merritt to approve the shut-off list. A.V.A.M.C.


OLD BUSINESS:  There was a brief discussion regarding the abatement, and Mayor Housh noted that all committees would remain the same as 2016.

GENERAL LABOR APPLICATIONS:  After a brief review of the applications received to date, it was determined to delay any action until the next regular meeting of the Council.


SPRING CLEAN UP:  Moved by Rembe, seconded by Carter to hold clean-up May 1 - May 12, with the same sign-up requirements as last year.     A.V A.M.C.


AFTER PROM DONATION:  Moved by Rembe, seconded by Housh to donate $100.00 to the After Prom program.  A.V.A.M.C.


ADJOURNMENT:  Moved by Merritt, seconded by Carter to adjourn at 6:32 p.m. A.V.A.M.C.
